Initial Assessment

The initial assessment team analyzes every piece of media to determine its state.

Continued Assessment

The Continued Assessment team re-analyzes the disk to confirm the initial assessment.

Post Declaration Assessment

The team running stage three are involved in highly complex and unique work that cannot be handled by stages one and two.

Recovering Data from Hard Drives

Thanks to specialized techniques that have been developed in-house, cutting edge equipment and over a century’s worth of collective experience, Fields is highly adept at hard drive Recover! We possess an exceptional success rate and are usually able to recover all data at the first attempt.

Common Reasons for Hard Drive Failure:

  • Motor Failure: Where the hard drive fails to spin up due to seized bearings. Commonly the result of physical damage from, for example, being dropped.
  • Electrical Failure: Where the Printed Circuit Board becomes damaged and fails to control power and data. This can be caused by component failure, malicious damage or a power surge.
  • Head Failure: The Read/Write Heads in a hard drive can fail for many reasons including the natural failure of components through general wear and tear, damage caused by physical trauma and even from dirt finding its way into the drive.
  • Firmware Failure: Firmware is a piece of software that instructs the hard drive. If this software fails, hard drives can behave erratically or, in some cases, will not work at all. Firmware failure can share symptoms with other problems such as head failure or a drive that is not spinning up to the required speed.
  • Logical Failure: Logical issues are not physical problems and the hard drive's physical components are working perfectly, but the data is still inaccessible. Examples of this include deletion, the corruption of data and formatting.

How do we recover data from a Hard Drive?

The techniques that our technicians will utilize will differ depending on the cause of failure. In any event, though, Fields possess the specialist engineers and the state-of-the-art equipment needed to Recover your hard drive and fully recover your data.

Whatever the reason for your hard drive having failed, Fields have the expertise and the apparatus needed to get your data back quickly and affordably. Get an approximate quote or book your free diagnostic by emailing or calling us today.

RAID, which stands for Redundant Arrays of Independent Disks, are, as there name suggests, a storage media solution comprised of a number of disks that are combined together to provide end-users with enhanced speed, to increase the security of their data or both.

The manner in which these individual drives are combined is not consistent, however, though four separate arrangements are commonly used:

RAID 0: Also known as striped RAID, RAID0 arrays are used solely to increase performance. This is achieved by splitting data into even segments on to disks present in the array. While this results in increased performance, it offers no additional protection against data loss and, should a single drive fail, all data will become inaccessible.

RAID1: RAID1 arrays – commonly referred to as mirrored RAID due to their setup – are used to increase the security of the data stored on them. Here, two or more drives are included in the array with each existing as a duplicate of the other.

RAID5: These arrays are designed in order to both improved performance and security. It utilizes striping like a RAID0 but can tolerate the failure of one disk thanks to what is known as parity whereby data that is stored on one disk is partially written to all others allowing any lost data to be rebuilt in the event of a drive failing.

RAID6: RAID6 arrays utilize the same principles as those seen in RAID5 arrays, but, as it increases the amount of storage space dedicated to parity data, can tolerate the failure of two drives rather than just one.

While the techniques that our technicians utilize will differ depending on the arrangement, the following will consistently be undertaken during a diagnostic on a failed RAID array:

  • The RAID's configuration and file-system will be thoroughly assessed;
  • A review to determine whether physical parts of the array require replacement or Recover; and
  • A custom plan for the safe extraction of the data held on the drive is developed.

While Fields have an exceptionally high success rate with all types of RAID array, we cannot be certain that your data is recoverable, nor can we determine the likely costs, without having diagnosed the array beforehand. You can book your free diagnostic today by sending us an email or calling us at 866-879-1281866-879-1281.

Servers have – thanks to the falling cost of the technology – become more prominent in not just commercial settings (the vast majority of modern businesses utilize servers to some extent) but within tech-savvy households too! Some of the most common types of servers are:

  • File and Media Servers: These include Network Attached Storage, Storage Area Networks, External Hard Drives and DROBO units.
  • Exchange Servers: These servers are used to manage Microsoft exchange; an extremely popular email solution for businesses.
  • Database Servers: As their name suggests, these are used to store large databases and are absolutely vital to numerous businesses around the world.
  • Web Servers: With many companies reliant upon their online presence as a means of considerable profit generation, a failed web server – which stores the information required for companies to remain online – can have serious and adverse financial consequences!

Irrespective of the server type, though, Fields’ elite server recovery team will undertake the following when completing their initial diagnostic:

  • Determine the precise cause of failure;
  • Review the condition of all physical components and establish if any are in need of Recover or replacement; and
  • Create a unique plan of action for safe recovery of your data

With Fields’ free diagnostic, you can receive confirmation of the fact that your data can be recovered and receive a no-obligation, fixed-fee quote fast! Book yours today by sending us an email or calling us at 866-879-1281866-879-1281.
